October 13
Last night, I pulled on a jacket and walked out into the night. For the first time, October made me shiver. I stood and listened.
Silence.
Shadows.
Cold.
I turned and looked up the slope to my home. Yellow light poured from the windows and music floated from somewhere inside.
Laughter.
Light.
Warmth.
The picture made me think about my life on earth, as I walk toward God’s eternal Kingdom. I stand in the dark—shivering— and look to the light of my true home. I’m not there yet, but I glimpse it.
I wonder if that place is less like our Americanized idea of a city and more like a brick house on a hill, where light colors the windows and voices remember how to laugh and the music never fades.
One day, you and I will step out of the night, into our new home. And I think what makes eternity such a beautiful thought is that we can’t begin to guess it’s gloriousness.
You might imagine a city. I might imagine a home.
The point is this:
We will always be with the Lord (1 Thess. 4:17b).
And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever (Rev. 22:5).

Bethany, this was beautiful. 🙂 Such a wonderful picture of the hope that we have.
